Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
I want to thank all our families who have filled out the Needs Assessment Survey that was sent out to all of you yesterday. As previously stated, the needs assessment is one of most important tasks that a school principal should be involved in each year. When I was selected last year to be your principal, I met with families and staff to find out what you and this team required of your new site administrator. This Needs Assessment will help me stay true to the promise of being a leader focused on your needs. UBUNTU is at the core of this promise. This is not my school, this is our school and if we work together, we will become the school we strive to be!
My promise was and will continue to be about transparency and open communication. Your voice is more than important to me, it is the driving force behind who I want to be for this amazing school and our community. The Needs Assessment is conducted every year in California Public Schools to ensure that the stakeholders and their voices are heard by administration. It helps us establish clear goals and a vision for Alcott.
Unfortunately, our COVID reality does not allow for us to meet in person with coffee and snacks to engage in face-to-face conversations. However, we can still provide authentic opportunities through virtual Town Hall meetings and surveys. As of today, we have just over 25 families who have completed the short survey that was sent to all our families (Infant-Elementary). My goal is for over 80% of our amazing families to participate-we have a ways to go to meet my target. I need your involvement and appreciate your immediate attention to this request. The survey link is also on our website.
Next Thursday, February 3rd, I will be holding a virtual Town Hall Meeting at 6:00 p.m. to review the survey results and to provide for additional discussion. We will work together and begin to problem solve around areas that are in our control. This is your school and I challenge all our Alcott School Community to complete this Needs Assessment survey by the end of the weekend. If you are having issues with the google survey link, inform the front office immediately. I appreciate all you do as supporters of Alcott and look forward to next Thursday’s Town Hall Meeting: zoom link will be sent next week.
This week’s FWOW (Feeling Word of the Week) is EMPATHY. Be sure to use this word with your children at home, during dinner time conversations, and at family time. We kicked off our American Heart Association event this week and are learning about Heart Heroes: these are young kids that have endured a lifetime of Heart conditions and over 20 heart procedures. Empathy is a perfect word for this week.
Pizza with the Principal next week will be celebrating 12 Leaders and Scholars from Ms. Hemingway/Mr. Neri, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Rannazzisi. Students will be selected by teachers for demonstrating what it means to be a bucket filler at Alcott. I have enjoyed visiting classrooms each week to recognize all our leaders and scholars. It fills my bucket to see our amazing students and all they have achieved this school year.
Have a great weekend.
Principal Lewis
