Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
This has been a very busy week with the news of our plans to welcome students back to Alcott after spring break. Although we are excited to bring back our school community, we must remain patient. There are still factors that must be addressed to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, students, and families. I will continue to update our families as information is provided. I have heard from many of you and understand the extreme levels of anxiety this past year has caused for our students and families. As an educator, I want to see our kids back to school, laughing, learning and socializing. We are almost there!
Announcements:
- Learning Lab Update: The district has informed administrators that HR staff have made 170,000+ calls to our substitute employees. The struggles we are witnessing throughout the district are like those we are observing here at Alcott. As a reminder, while the goal was that every school should have a Classroom Lab or a Learning Lab, Alcott will not invite students until we have confirmed staff to support our learning labs. It simply is not fair for you or our students to promise a learning lab without staff. Our staff must feel safe prior to returning to work and your understanding is appreciated.
- Our Clairemont Cohort of Schools will be meeting for the 3rd time this school year at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4th. All parents and community members are welcome!
- Clairemont Community of Schools are meetings in which parents and staff from Alcott Elementary School-1of the 5 feeder elementary schools, Marston and Clairemont High School discuss topics like K-12 alignment, district updates, enrollment, marketing, and other items brought forth to the committee. Area Superintendents, principals and a SDUSD Board Trustee often attend these meetings.

- Target Date of April 12th: I continue to celebrate this news and preparing to have our Alcott Owls back at school. Two of the factors that we must address prior to our return are: We must be in the red tier and school staff need to have the opportunity to be fully vaccinated, The good news is our district is starting the vaccination process for educators tomorrow.
- I would like to thank families and staff who attended last night's Town Hall meeting. I am including the presentation to this message for your review.
- PTA NEEDS YOU! Please follow our PTA news and sign up today. Your $10 dues ensures our staff and students have the needed resources to fund our fieldtrips, art classes and so much more. Your involvement is the single greatest factor in achieving our goals to be the best school in our region.
- Parents have spoken and I have heard them! When I have asked what you need from me as your principal, the top response has been clear and transparent communication. Communication is very important to my mission to be an effective principal for you and this community. I will be providing weekly communication using school messenger and it's important that we have your correct email. All my updates will also be found on our website. I encourage you to follow the links to our school's website, my Instagram (principalslewis) and twitter account @MrLewisSD for pictures and information showcasing our staff and our efforts to create a school culture where learning is engaging, fun and effective. We will be the staff that remains innovative in our approaches that best fit our Leaders and Scholars.
I want to thank all of our amazing families who have welcomed me to this team. I will continue to express my gratitude and promise to listen and support you, our staff, and students.
I am honored to be your principal.
Enjoy your weekend.
Mr. Lewis, Principal
