Good morning Alcott School Community,
As we prepare to complete our first month back at school, I remain in awe of our staff, students, and families/guardians. Our successful reopening is due to YOU! One of the core concepts of who we are at Alcott is rooted in the concept of UBUNTU, which is an African philosophy that means (I am; because we are). What I have learned over the course of my career in education embraces UBUNTU. I am the leader I am today because I believe in TEAM. Our Alcott team includes you and I am looking forward to our collaboration as we focus on how we can be the best school in our region.
I am including a link to Trevor Noah’s podcast with former U.N. Senior Advisor and the author of “I Am a Girl from Africa”. Elizabeth Nyamayaro who discusses her memoir and the UBUNTU values that was at the core of her childhood in Zimbabwe. She speaks of what it meant to be part of a culture that believed in the “I am; because we are”. It is inspiring and you will hear her discuss UBUNTU and what it means to Africa and how it shaped who she is today. It will outline my goals for this TEAM!
- Our District is committed to nurturing and enhancing safe and healthy educational environments for students, families, and staff. In order to achieve this important goal, we will be conducting the California School System (CAL-SCHLS) survey. Through CAL-SCHLS, our District will collect data from students, staff, and families to meet California Educational State mandates. I appreciate your time and participation in this anonymous survey that will help us improve our school climate. This is valuable data we use at SSC to make informed budget decisions.
- The window is open from May 1-28. The link to the survey is:
