5/26/22 Friday Update

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
Our hearts are heavy this week with the horrific news of this week’s school shooting in Texas.  Our Safety Team has gathered and discussed how we will take our preparedness to the next level.  On Wednesday, I requested the presence of SDPD Officer Bonilla on-site and we are discussing how we will collaborate with our local law enforcement to provide greater practice drills, as well as stronger messaging to our community regarding our safety plan.  You have my assurance that we will not take this lightly.  The safety of our kids, staff, and community is our main concern and we will continue to keep you updated as we strengthen our procedures.
PARAGLIDING FOR WISHES:  fundraiser supporting the Make a Wish Trailblaze Challenge at the Torrey Pines Gliderport:  this Saturday; May 28th from 12:00-5:00.  Have fun for a great cause!
Our Alcott team includes you and the survey that was sent to you from Ms. Kerns earlier in the week and again today from me, is your guarantee to secure your spot at our school for the 2022-23 school year.  Should the link I sent you today not open, please refer to the earlier link sent from our office.  If this link is not working, contact the front office on Tuesday to guarantee your child’s enrollment for next year.
Student Chromebooks:  students in UTK-grade 1 will be checking in their devices prior to the end of the school year.  Students in grades 2-5 will be assigned their devices for use at home over the summer.  All students must return their Chromebooks to school in the fall.  5th graders will be taking their devices to their Middle Schools.  Students not attending a SDUSD Middle School will be returning their devices prior to our last day of school.
Feature pics of the week on the website:  Feeling Word of the Week (FWOW) :  I apologize; however, due to this week’s horrendous event in Texas, we were not able to capture our pictures.  We will be back next week with our featured staff pictures.
This Week’s Feeling Word of the Week (FWOW) is TIRED. Continue to make this a weekly focus at home and be sure to add your comments to the whiteboard that is being viewed daily by our parents and community.
