12/10/21 Friday Update

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
Today was our “Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character” and I had a blast visiting classrooms and celebrating with our Leaders and Scholars.  I was dressed as the Bucket from How Full Is Your Bucket and I want to thank all our families for their kind words on the crosswalk.  You filled my BUCKET!  Be sure to visit our website and check out a few of the pictures on Twitter.
The health and well-being of our staff, students, and community remains one of my top priorities and our School Psychologist, Ms. Worley, is our Wellness Coordinator who will be leading our Wellness Committee.  The Alcott School Wellness Committee is looking for a parent volunteer! This is a great opportunity to participate in our continued mission to support the well-being of our Alcott community. The Wellness Committee will meet 4-5 times over the remainder of the school year to address the following goals:
  • Support the school in developing a healthier school environment
  • Create the vision and goals for the school’s involvement in Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program
  • Assist with policy development or revision to support a healthy school environment
  • Promote parent, community and professional involvement in developing a healthier school environment
  • Advocate for school health programs and policies within the broader school community
  • Tap into funding and leverage resources for student and staff wellness
  • Plan and implement programs for students and staff ▪ Evaluate program and policy efforts
  • Provide feedback to the district regularly regarding progress on the implementation of the local wellness policy
If you are interested in joining our TEAM, please email Isabelle Worley at [email protected] by Wednesday 12/15/2021.
Our vision for Alcott is focused on positivity and if you haven’t read the book, How Full is Your Bucket, be sure to pick it up over break.  Our entire staff of over 90 has read this book and will strive to create that school culture that defines Alcott as one of the top schools in the region.   I encourage you to support our vision that clearly identifies that...to increase positive emotions in your life and others' lives, you must make a habit of filling buckets...our relationships, careers, and lives will be much more fulfilling if we increase the flow of positive emotions around us." (Pg. 67).  Join me in this EFFORT!!!
California state law requires schools to instruct students in safe riding practices while aboard a school bus. This instruction includes an annual drill in exiting the bus quickly. Alcott will be practicing our evacuation bus drill on Jan. 4th.  As part of this program, every student will take part in a practice jump from a parked bus. The drill will be instructed by a specially trained school bus driver. The jump is from the emergency exit door of the school bus onto a padded mat.
If your child is unable to jump because of illness, physical condition, or other valid reason, please indicate so by completing and returning the form which will be sent home next week.
Our Lost and Found items are growing.  All items that have been unclaimed for more than 3 weeks will be donated next Friday before we head into our Winter Break.  If you would like to review the items, please stop by the front office.  We have a large bag that you can look through and claim any of your child’s items.  To ensure we aren’t donating any items left over night or for a short period, I have placed all objects that have been unclaimed for more than 21 days in a bag.  Only items that have not been picked up after a 3-week period will be donated.  Thank you for assisting!
PARENT WORKSHOP SERIES
  • The San Diego Unified School District and Carlsbad Unified School District invite parents to participate in a series of workshops where they will receive up to date information about what happens in our community, helping to raise young people who are successful in school and life in general.

Have a great weekend.
