1/21/22 Friday Update

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,

Spring temperatures are hitting Alcott and it’s great to see our students enjoying this amazing San Diego weather.

The American Heart Association is partnering with Alcott for this year’s Kids Heart Challenge:

We are excited to be partnering with the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge again this year! As a Kids Heart Challenge Heart Hero, your student will learn about kids with special hearts and have the opportunity to raise funds for the health of all hearts. They’ll also get moving with fun activities, learn about keeping their hearts healthy and happy while feeling great about helping others. Our Kids Heart Challenge program is kicking off on January 26th  with a LIVE virtual Assembly from the American Heart Association. Help your child get a jump start by downloading the FREE Kids Heart Challenge App for Apple or Android or visiting http://www2.heart.org/goto/alcottes   When registering, your child will choose a heart healthy challenge to Be Active or Be Kind and earn a FREE Road Warrior Wristband! Any student that joins the team by Friday will get a live shout out at our kickoff! Our goal is to have 100% of our students register online and take the Challenge. Let’s have fun and save lives!

COVID Update:

Independent Study Packets are available to all families who are having to keep their children at home due to COVID related illness.  Contact your classroom teacher as needed.  Available Free COVID Home Tests. Each household will receive 4 Rapid antigen tests.  Please sign up using this link.  https://special.usps.com/testkits

Our Monday morning message has been a great way to bring our entire Alcott team together for important messages and to present the FWOW (Feeling Word of the Week).  This weekly word focus allows us to highlight a “feeling word” that is geared towards our goal of helping empower students with the use of “I statements” and to help them resolve conflicts on their own.  We are the safe adults to ensure this works and I am impressed with how well kids are using the FWOW.  This week’s word was (PROUD) and next week our word will be (Worried).  Be sure to use this word with your children at home, during dinner time conversations, and at family time.  The Home/School Connection will make this more of an impact and help our future leaders and scholars as they soon become “young adults” before we know it!  UBUNTU

Each week we are drawing tickets from the buckets around campus to celebrate our “bucket fillers”.  Our staff are handing out “caught you being a bucket filler” tickets to TK-5th grade students who are demonstrating what is means to be a bucket filler.  From sharing with a friend to asking a classmate (who is feeling sad) how they are doing, our Alcott Owls are proving that they know the How Full is Your Bucket philosophy.  It’s remarkable!

Pizza with the Principal is occurring every Monday and I will be joined by 8-12 students from a featured grade.  Students are being selected by their teachers for being true Leaders and Scholars who are demonstrating Alcott Owl Pride.  This week I will be celebrating 8 (4th and 5th graders).

Thank you again for supporting our staff and remaining patient as we continue to work through the daily challenges with our current pandemic.

Enjoy your weekend.
